Precalculus: Exam 01 Solutions
I. Evaluer les expressions suivantes:
a)
(27 . 2-3)/23 =
(24/23 = 24-3 = 2
b)
(1/27)1/3
= 1/3
c)
(√8)2/3 = (81/2 )2/3 =
81/2. 2/3 = 81/3 = 2
d)
√27 / (√9)1/3 =
271/2/ (3)1/3 =
(33)1/2/ (3)1/3 =
33/2/ 31/3 =
33/2 - 1/3 = 37/6
II. Simplifier les expressions suivantes:
a)
(2 x3)(3x-2)
(2 x3)(3x-2) =
6 x3-2 = 6x
b)
x2 y-3/x3y2
x2 y-3/x3y2
=
x2 - 3/y2 + 3 =
x- 1 /y5 = 1/xy5
c)
45x-5/2y1/3/
(8 x3 y-6)1/3
45x-5/2y1/3/
(81/3 x3. 1/3 y-6 . 1/3) =
(45/81/3) x-5/2 - 1y1/3 + 2 =
(2-1/345/41/3) x-7/2y7/2 =
(2-1/345 - 1/3) x-7/2y7/2 =
(414/3/21/3) y7/2/x7/2
=
(228/3/21/3) y7/2/x7/2
=
29 (y/x)7/2
d)
(x - y)/(√x - √y)
= (x - y)/(√x - √y)
=
(x - y)(√x + √y)/(√x - √y)(√x + √y) =
(x - y)(√x + √y)/(x - y) =
(√x + √y)
III. Trouver les racines des equations suivantes et ecriver
les trinomes sous forme de produit (x - x1)(x - x2).
a)
x2 - 9 = 0
=
(x - 3) (x + 3) = 0
x = - 3
x = 3
x2 - 9 = (x - 3) (x + 3)
b)
x2 + 10 x + 25 = 0
Somme = - 10
Produit = 25
x1 = - 5
x2 = - 5
x2 + 10 x + 25 = (x + 5)(x + 5)
c)
x2 - 14 x + 13 = 0
13 est premier et n'est pas le produit de
deux nombres.
Δ' = (-7)2 - (1)(13) = 36
x1 = (7 - 6)/1 = 1
x2 = (7 + 6)/1 = 13
Ou bien avec la comletion du carré:
x2 - 14 x + 49 - 49 + 13 = 0
(x - 7)2 - 36 = 0
(x - 7)2 = 36
x - 7 = ± 6
x1 = 7 - 6 = 1
x2 = 7 + 6 = 13
x2 - 14 x + 13 = (x - 1)(x - 13)
d)
2 x2 - 6x + 4 = 0
Somme m + n = - 6
Produit m x n = 2 x 4 = 8
m = - 4
n = - 2
f(x) = (1/a)(ax + m)(ax + n)
2 x2 - 6x + 4 = (1/2)(2x - 4)(2x - 2) =
(x - 2)(2x - 2) = 2(x - 2)(x -1)
e)
3 x2 + 3 x + 3 = 0
3 x2 + 3 x + 3 = 3(x2 + x + 1 )
Donc:
x2 + x + 1 = 0
Δ = 12 - 4(1)(1) = 1 - 4 = - 3
Δ < est negatif → pas de racines et donc
pas de factorisation.
IV. Factorisez les expressions suivantes:
a)
3x2 - 12
3x2 - 12
= 3(x2 - 4) = 3 (x - 2)(x + 2)
b)
(x2 - 4)/(x + 4)
(x2 - 4)/(x + 4) = (x - 4)(x + 4)/(x + 4) =
x - 4
c)
(x2 + 10 x + 25)/(2x + 10)
(x2 + 10 x + 25)/(2x + 10)
=
(x + 5)2/2(x + 5) = (x + 5)/2
d)
x3 + xy2 + 2 x2 y
=
x3 + xy2 + 2 x2 y
=
x(x2 + y2 + 2 x y) =
x (x + y)2
V. Fonctions:
On considère les deux fonctions suivantes:
f(x) = 3 x - 4
g(x) = x2 - x
a) Quel est le point d'intersection des courbes de ses fonctions?
Il faut egaliser les fonctions:
3 x - 4 = x2 - x
x2 - x - 3 x + 4 = 0
x2 - 4x + 4 = 0
( x - 2)2 = 0
Racine double:
x1 = x2 = 2
Pour l'abcisse x = 2 on trouve son ordonné en
remplaçant x par 2 dans l'une ou l'autre des equations
f(x) = 3 x - 4
ou
g(x) = x2 - x
On trouve un même résultat:
y = 2
Donc le point (2,2) est le point
d'intersection de la droite f(x) et de
la parabole g(x).
b) Représenter sur un graphique les fonctions f(x) et g(x).
c) Donner l'expression de f∘g(x) et evaluer f∘g(0).
f(x) = 3 x - 4
g(x) = x2 - x
f∘g(x) = f(g(x)) =
3 g(x) - 4 = 3(x2 - x ) - 4 =
3x2 - 3x - 4
f∘g(0) = - 4
Les deux graphiques ont été representés par Gnuplot :
set border
set xtics 1
set grid
set xzeroaxis lt 3 lw 2
set yzeroaxis lt 3 lw 2
set style line 1 lw 3
set xrange [-7:7]
set yrange [-5:5]
f(x)= 3*x -4; g(x)= x**2 - x;
set title "Graph of f(x) and g(x)"
set xlabel " x "
set ylabel "f(x) and g(x)"
plot f(x), g(x) lw 2
